The Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG directly aligns with the Academy Vision, Mission, Principles, Focus Areas and Impact Goals throughout their program of work for the 2020-2023 membership years.

The following Principles directly align with the Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG efforts:

  • Collaborate to solve the greatest food and nutrition challenges now and in the future
  • Focus on system-wide impact across the food, wellness and health care sectors
  • Have a global impact in eliminating all forms of malnutrition
  • Amplify the contribution of nutrition practitioners and expand workforce capacity and capability

Additionally, all three Focus Areas (Prevention and Well-being; Health Care and Health Systems; and Food and Nutrition Safety and Security) are addressed throughout the Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG program of work. The Plan, goals and strategies correlate to the principles.

Four Overarching Goals

  1. Build and empower a diverse membership that supports our mission and vision.
  2. Enhance members’ knowledge and skills related to current and emerging public health nutrition and community nutrition issues through evidence-based and practice-based solutions.
  3. Identify, develop, and work in collaborations with key partners to promote the public’s health and well-being.
  4. Support members' involvement in public policy to promote optimal outcomes in public health nutrition and community nutrition.

Goals, Objective, Strategies, Tactics and Responsibility

Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG will adopt an implementation plan to begin facilitating work towards accomplishing the Strategic Plan. Based on the size of the project, a taskforce may be used to help with the workload. The Strategic Planning provides short-term, mid-term, and long-term activities to accomplish goals by current and future leaders of the Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG. Short-term, mid-term, and long-term evaluation of all projects and programs will be conducted to ensure high quality work, satisfied members and volunteers, and that Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG is achieving its four overarching goals detailed below to achieve its vision and mission. In addition, once the Plan is finalized, the Public Health/Community Nutrition DPG will work to develop a communication plan that will support all of the four overarching goals. More specific timelines will be established upon member and volunteer recruitment to accomplish proposed activities. The DPG Manager will provide oversight on the execution of the strategic plan with standing updates from project leads on monthly Executive Committee calls. All Executive Committee Members (elected or appointed) will be responsible for a minimum of two project activities. Evaluation results will inform current and future activities.
