LLPC Fall 2011 Quarterly Report

This quarterly update contains current information on federal legislative issues. It has been a very busy time here in DC with frustration and stress running a bit high in Congress.  The Super Committee was unable to come to any agreement about the deficit which now puts into action automatic cuts known as sequestration.  We are learning that it is not black and white on what will be reduced and when.  We do know that we will continue to work with other key partners and members of Congress to understand how these actions will effect our members and the programs and services we deliver.  We will also analyze the FY12 budget for those bills passed and how these changes will effect ADA as well.

The Agriculture Committees of both the House and the Senate had developed recommendations that were submitted to Super Committee in hopes that it would be the foundation of the next Farm Bill. Although not perfect, ADA was very pleased to see so many of our issues included in the recommendations.  Now that the Super Committee is just a memory, it is expected that the usual process for the passage of the Farm Bill will occur.  We will continue our efforts here and hope that the current recommendations are included in the proposed bill.

We also continue to work with the Senate staff on the Older Americans Act and the language in that bill. The Senate is taking the lead on this with little happening in the House.
