Members of Public Health/Community
Nutrition Practice Group (PHCNPG), a dietetic practice group (DPG)
of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), are a dynamic group of
more than 1,500 registered dietitians and diet technicians, registered
who are involved in program planning and evaluation, education, direct
care and consultation services, policy, and research in the United
States and abroad. Our members work in partnership with other health
professionals and stakeholders to serve the public through the promotion
of optimal nutrition, health, and well-being.
Mission and Goals
The Public Health/Community Nutrition Practice Group (PHCNPG) is dedicated
to advancing the practice of public health and community nutrition
to promote the public's health. PHNCNPG goals are as follows:
- Engage a diverse membership that supports the mission
- Enhance members' professional knowledge and skills related
to current and emerging public health issues
- Build public policy that promotes optimal public health outcomes
- Identify strategic collaborations with internal and external
groups and organizations to promote the practice group, broaden
impact, and attract new members
- Focus on a highly trained, sustainable future public health
nutrition work force
- Promote research that supports evidence-based practices
Leadership and Standing Committees
PHCNPG leaders are members who are willing to make a commitment to
the advancement of our practice group and to the field of public health
nutrition. PHCNPG elected officers include the chair, the chair-elect,
the immediate past chair, the secretary, the treasurer, and the nominating
committee chair and committee members. PHCNPG also has a number of
standing and ad hoc committees.
The Executive committee is the practice group's governing body
and is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation
of the program of work; fiscal affairs; and leadership. The executive
committee consists of the chair, the chair-elect, the immediate past
chair, the secretary, the treasurer, and the nominating committee
chair. All other committee chairs participate in activities and, as
nonvoting members of the executive committee, have input into PHCNPG
governance.
The awards committee (1) solicits suggestions from the executive
committee and other PHCNPG members for the following awards:
(2) submits award candidates to the Executive Committee for
concurrence; (3) works with candidates to develop nomination packages
for ADA and ADAF National awards; (4) receives and reviews submits
candidates nomination packages for PHCNPG awards and advises
the Executive Committee on the selection process.
The public policy committee (1) informs members of legislative
activities, (2) represents PHCNPG at the ADA Public Policy Workshop,
(3) provides input on legislative issues, and (4) provides assistance
with the development and review of position papers related to legislative
issues.
The newsletter editor, with the assistance and direction of
the executive committee, (1) solicits from members topics for articles
of interest; (2) sets deadlines for article submission and review;
and (3) plans, assembles, edits, and directs the printing and mailing
of the PHCNPG quarterly newsletter, The Digest.
The membership committee (1) compiles and tracks ADA membership
data, making it available to PHCNPG leadership, (2) welcomes new members
with a packet and a questionnaire, and (3) communicates with former
members to encourage continued connections.
The nominating committee solicits the membership to identify
qualified members for the Executive Committee positions and develops

The Website committee provides oversight and leadership for
updating the website on a regular basis and providing recommendations
to the Executive Committee regarding a new website design for the
future. |
